Jim Evison is a playing field site located in Wilmslow. The site is approximately 10.9 ha and is considered a key playing field hub-site, with multiple grass pitches for football and rugby, changing provision and parking. Whilst Jim Evison is a key hub site it had suffered in the past from a lack of investment. In all the Council’s Strategy work, particularly the Playing Pitch Strategy (PPS) and Local Football Facilities Plan (LFFP) the site is identified as a priority for investment and as a consequence of this has various s106 allocations, plus it has also been earmarked for potential grant funding. The site was also identified as one of the potential priority sites identified in the Council’s new PPS.
The Council were therefore keen to undertake a feasibility study and develop a masterplan for the site to realise its potential and ensure any investment is targeted to meet the long-term needs of the site and the area.
This feasibility study explored the future of the Jim Evison site; assessed the priority for a 3g, the implication of this on grass pitches and the wider environment in terms of planning and ecology. It looked at what investment was required for the grass pitches, how the layouts may change, what the future requirements for changing provision will be and what investment this may require in terms of the current building and wider infra-structure for the site including car parking. The feasibility study was led by SPC with technical support and input provided by Tt Ecologists, The Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) and abacus.
